The letter has no effect on the end of the war.
Redaction: Probably Moroni interpreted events according to his story’s moral in stating that “the people repented not of their iniquity.” Ether may have made the same judgment, but the overt moralizing about the Jaredite fate seems to be Moroni’s addition to the story.
