“The Waters of Ripliancum”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

The first onslaught of Shiz after the peace offer was rejected was so viciously violent that Coriantumr fled for his life. He halted at the Waters of Ripliancum, and prepared for defense. The name Ripliancum means large or to exceed all. Orson Pratt in early editions of the Book of Mormon remarks in a footnote: "Supposed to be Lake Ontario," but he does not indicate his authority for this. That some large inland lake is referred to is, however, probable. The unfortunate fugitive was closely pursued by his irreconciliable enemy, and in the conflict which ensued, he was again severely wounded.
