“The People Began to Be Frightened”

Brant Gardner

Verse 18 records Coriantumr’s army’s dread of Shiz’s army. However, Coriantumr blunted the most devastating aspect of Shiz’s attack (his attack on noncombatants, v. 15) and reduced Shiz’s fearsomeness. Coriantumr’s counterattack is so successful that now Shiz’s “people began to be frightened.” Trapped against the seashore, his army flees to the land of Corihor, en route killing the civilians who will not join them.
