Ether knew that just as Joseph had gone down into Egypt and later saved all of Israel from starvation, so the seed of Joseph was later taken out of Jerusalem when Lehi came to America so that Joseph's seed could be preserved. Furthermore, Ether said it would be the seed of Joseph who would build the New Jerusalem and prevail until the end of the earth when it would be sanctified and glorified.
