“If They Have Not Charity It Mattereth Not Unto Thee thou Hast Been Faithful wherefore, Thy Garments Shall Be Made Clean”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

These verses were read by Hyrum Smith just before his martyrdom and that of his brother Joseph (D&C 135:4–5). And how appropriate were these words to that occasion: the Lord’s assurance that Joseph and Hyrum were full of charity and were faithful, that they would be cleansed, made strong, and exalted. They bid farewell, as did Moroni, to the Gentiles and to their brethren whom they loved (compare 2 Nephi 33:14; Jacob 6:13; Moroni 10:34).
