“Ether Came Forth in the Days of Coriantumr”

Brant Gardner

This passage introduces two of the three important actors in the final Jaredite drama. The first is Ether, who appeared in the last verse as the son of the imprisoned Coriantor. The second is Coriantumr, the king. His genealogy is not given, but he is either the “mighty man” of Ether 11:17 or, more probably, his son. In any case, here at the end, the beginning is replayed but reversed. The descendants of Jared and his brother are, like the original brothers, the most important personages; but in this endgame, the descendant of Jared the ruler is the prophet, and the descendant of Jared’s brother, the prophet, is the ruler.
