“Six Generations of Captivity”

Monte S. Nyman

Of the fourteen or fifteen generations discussed in this chapter, six of them are covered in the five verses above. Four of the six generations spent all of their days in captivity (v. 31). Hearthom , the first generation king, was free the first part of his life (v. 30) and Com, the last generation king, gained his freedom during the last part of his life (v. 32). His having been in captivity probably was his incentive to fight against the secret combinations after he became king (v. 34). The account of Com’s reign extends into Ether 11.
