“There Should Come a Curse Upon the Face of the Land”

On this second mission of the prophets, Heth, unlike Shule (Ether 7:23), does not protect them. Indeed, he orders their persecution. Heth therefore becomes the symbol of apostasy, triggering the curse that accompanies faithlessness. In this case, the curse manifests itself as drought followed by famine (v. 30).
