Akish summoned to Jared’s compound “all his kinsfolk”—meaning male heads of household related to Akish—to commit them to his conspiracy. Uniting a kin group by oath is an important addition to the story. Political intrigues among the Jaredites had always been family affairs, with different claimants to the throne gaining precedence at one time or another. In moving against the king, support naturally had to come from the kin of the man who stood most to gain.
