“Kib Reigned in His Stead”

W. Cleon Skousen

Since Orihah was the only descendent of Jared or the brother of Jared who was willing to serve as king, one might have suspected that he had unrighteous ambitions, but this does not seem to have been the case. Here is what we read.

The good king Orihah was from the second generation of Jaredites, his father being Jared, one of the two leaders of the colony. Now we come to the first of the major problems which complicated the history of the Jaredites This is the fact that when a king lived for almost a couple of centuries, he would choose a younger son to extend the family influence as far into the future as possible. Thus it was that Orihah had Kib in his old age and appointed this young man as his successor.
