“Blessed Is He That Is Found Faithful”

Brant Gardner

The ultimate blessing is that the faithful will be “lifted up to dwell in the kingdom.”

Text: Ether’s first chapter ends here in the 1830 edition. The next chapter also discusses the future, but the speaker returns to Moroni rather than being a quotation from Yahweh. Even though Moroni began his aside in Ether’s record during the last chapter and continues it, he breaks the chapter here, recognizing the finality of the Savior’s “Amen.” It is essentially a change of speaker or, at the very least, the end of an inserted sermon, following the same principles Mormon used in creating chapter breaks. (See Mosiah, Part 1: Context, Chapter 2, “Mormon’s Structural Editing: Chapters and Books.”)
