“Two Stones”

The two stones, or the interpreters (see 4:5), were a Urim and Thummim (Hebrew, meaning “lights and perfections”; see footnote references), the very same instrument that Joseph Smith would later use (D&C 17:1). See “History of the Urim and Thummim” in commentary at Mosiah 28:11–14, 20.
