The brother of Jared followed the Lord’s instructions for building ships, just as Noah did earlier (Genesis 6:14–16) and as Nephi did later (1 Nephi 17:51; 18:1).
Verse 17 notes, five times, that the “barges” were “tight like unto a dish”; that is, they were watertight, or waterproof.
