“By Interpretation”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Moroni says this word, "by interpretation," means "honey bee." Possibly in the original language, spoken before the confusion of tongues and the dispersion of peoples, this was so. The Hebrew for honey is debesh (Deuteronomy 1:44). None of these words seem to be etymologically related to deseret. But there is an Arabian word for honey, 'asal, which may be near enough akin to the word for honey bee as used in the Book of Ether to suggest a common stem.
