The genealogical record of Ether begins with the names outlined in verses 6-32. The names connecting Jared, or Jerah, with Shem, the son of Noah, and through him with Adam as in Genesis, are all omitted. Moroni has already explained that he begins his story with the dispersion at the Tower, because history of previous events "is had among the Jews." (Ether 1:35)
