“Ye Do Walk in the Pride of Your Hearts”

Brant Gardner

Moroni’s lament for future conditions includes Nephite problems, most notably the connection between “pride” and “fine apparel.” This is the Nephite problem. Mormon had repeatedly demonstrated that such attitudes and behavior caused the Nephite downfall. Moroni interprets the future in terms of his own world. Thus, he attributes problems of the future to being “lift[ed] up” (social classes) and “fine apparel” that demonstrates elitism.
