“That Which Must Shortly Come”

Jana Reiss

In one of the Book of Mormon’s most stunning revelations, Moroni declares that he has been privileged to witness in a vision the future circumstances of the coming forth of the record he’s completing. His perspective of time seems to be spiritual, since the roughly fifteen hundred years that elapsed between his final writings (ca. 421 CE) and his first visit in angelic form to Joseph Smith (1826 CE) would not be considered brief by most people. Yet he says the day “must shortly come” when the records will come forth.
