“The Record Thereof Is of Great Worth and Whoso Shall Bring It to Light Him Will the Lord Bless”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

After giving a brief notation of his ancestry, Moroni avers that he it is who "hideth up this Record unto the Lord," meaning that it is hidden up awaiting the purposes of the Almighty which in due time will be made known. The Record, or the Plates upon which the Record is engraven, is of no material value to the holder thereof because the Word of the Lord is to that effect. The gold of which they are made, shall be, in the case of false ownership, counted as dross, as skum from molten ore or metal; waste matter or refuse. But, however, the Record itself is of great worth, and him will the Lord bless whosoever bringeth forth unto man, the knowledge therein impounded.
