“Every Soul Was Filled with Terror”

Brant Gardner

The last of the people willing to call themselves Nephites gather on the Hill Cumorah. Cerro Vigía is a high point on a coastal plain. Indeed, the name means “Lookout Hill.” From this hill, they can see their approaching doom for hours, possibly days. The overwhelming numbers of the enemy, and probably their fearsome reputation, assure that this battle will be final indeed. No wonder Mormon describes his people as “filled with terror.”
