“Unto the Land of Cumorah”

Jana Reiss

After the Savior’s visit to the Nephites, they enjoyed a brief golden age of peace and prosperity. During this period, there was one church with no division between Nephite and Lamanite; all the people united in a common faith and pooled all of their economic resources, sharing everything. Unfortunately, it did not last. Around the turn of the third century CE (ca. 201), the old class lines and divisions began to reassert themselves. Believers in the true religion were persecuted and killed. Before long, it wasn’t just the Lamanites who were wicked, but many among the Nephites as well, who succumbed to the sins of pride and unbelief. Here in chapter 6, the last of the righteous Nephites gather for a final battle against their enemies. The year is about 385 CE.
