“The Lord Hath Already Ceased to Strive with Their Fathers”

Brant Gardner

The “fathers” of the Nephite descendants are the Nephites of Mormon’s day. Mormon’s pessimism is evident in his lament that “the Spirit of the Lord hath already ceased to strive” with his people. They have already so fully adopted worldly values that they have forgotten Yahweh and consistently reject divine influences. That condition will always lead to soul-destruction; but in this case, it will also lead to their physical destruction.
