It is interesting that the Nephites were able to defend themselves in the city of Jordan and repulsed the Lamanites attack which followed very shortly. Mormon quickly urged the Nephites to fortify a chain of cities from the sea east to the sea west and thereby cut the Lamanites off from any further attack.
