“Nephites Began to Be Swept Off by Them Even as a Dew Before the Sun”

Brant Gardner

Mormon, writing after the fact, presents this gloomy foreshadowing, leaving the reader in no suspense about the eventual outcome. In this retrospective summary, the Nephites seem not even to resist strongly. They simply melt away before this invasion like “dew before the sun.” The imagery strengthens the sense of inevitability about their end.
