EVIDENCE: Sacrifice Women and Children—Human Sacrifice (Mormon 4:11–15, 21; Moroni 9:8–10)

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Ceremonial human sacrifice by the Lamanites, along with cannibalism among both the Lamanites and the Nephites, is recorded toward the end of the Book of Mormon. Recent archaeological digs provide evidence that human sacrifice and cannibalism were indeed practiced in Mesoamerica during the time period specified, but such evidence was unavailable at the time the Book of Mormon was translated and published.
