“They Began to Boast in Their Own Strength”

The Nephites’ tendency to trust in the arm of flesh flourishes after their military successes. Their hope was in humility, but they engaged instead in pride that separated them further from God. For Mormon, such boasting in human strength foretells disaster. Perhaps Mormon is remembering Nephi’s statement that those who trust in the arm of flesh are cursed (2 Ne. 28:31).
