“Ammaron”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Ammaron is the last of the keepers of the sacred chronicles of the Book of Mormon prior to the time of Mormon. Ammaron is moved by the Holy Ghost to hide up the records during a time of universal wickedness. Ammaron is the brother of Amos, who is the son of Amos, who is the son of Nephi, who is most likely the son of Nephi, the original disciple of the Lord (see 4 Nephi 1:19, 21, 47). Ammaron receives the commission to preserve and augment the records around AD 306, at a time when the Gadianton robbers have taken over the entire land and wickedness reigns supreme: “and there were none that were righteous save it were the disciples of Jesus” (4 Nephi 1:46). Around AD 321, Ammaron concludes his assignment and hides the account. Nevertheless, according to the promises of the Lord, the truths being preserved will again be revealed to the remnant of the house of Jacob. Amidst the darkness of moral rectitude among the people of that era, there is still a glow of eternal hope associated with the treasure of wisdom and truth hidden up in the sacred records of the Lord, which will, in due time, pass into the hands of Mormon and Moroni. These last record keepers will assemble and formulate the divine message of the Book of Mormon to come forth in our day as “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”—incontrovertible evidence “that the holy scriptures are true, and that God does inspire men and call them to his holy work in this age and generation, as well as in generations of old” (D&C 20:11).
