“Nephi”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

We assume that this Nephi is the son of Nephi, the first of the original disciples (see the subheading under the title to the book of 4 Nephi). This latter Nephi is likely included among those mentioned in verse 14: “and the disciples of Jesus, whom he had chosen, had all gone to the paradise of God.” Nephi, the original disciple, at the end of his mortal journey, has apparently commissioned his son Nephi (mentioned in verse 19) to carry on the work with the sacred records. Nephi, the son, carried on this commission until his days come to an end and he turns the task over to his son Amos. We know nothing more of the life of this last-mentioned Nephi.
