“Whoso Receiveth Not the Words of Jesus”

Brant Gardner

The imagery of receiving is one of hospitality. Hospitality dictates that we “receive” a guest as one of our family. We bring them in and accept them. When Jesus is “received,” his person cannot be separated from his message and purpose in the world. Therefore we receive or accept Christ through his words—simultaneously as person and mission. All are bound together. If we do not receive him, then we cannot receive his words (message) or the benefits of his atonement.
