“Among the Gentiles and the Jews”

Brant Gardner

As Mormon concludes his discussion of the Three Nephites, he adds some additional details. They are completely hidden from the world; even their names cannot be known. Mormon explains that he is forbidden to write their names. A name for the church was so significant an issue that Jesus himself resolved it (3 Ne. 27:5–6).

Mormon’s description contrasts the hidden and the revealed. The Three Nephites are hidden to the world, but they have revealed themselves to Mormon. The three will continue to aid both Gentiles and Jews equally, even though their identities (even the acknowledgement that it is they) will be hidden from them.
