Sanctification

“Two things work together to bring about this cleansing—the scriptural word is sanctification. First, sanctification is made possible because of Christ’s atoning sacrifice. He paid the price with his own life to meet the demands of justice… . Second, a person is actually cleansed or purified of the terrible effects of sin by the sanctifying, cleansing, purging influence of the Holy Ghost. We are sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost.” (Book of Mormon 121-122 Student Manual, p. 127)
“Take it individually or take it collectively, we have suffered and we shall have to suffer again; and why? Because the Lord requires it at our hands for our sanctification.” (Lorenzo Snow, Journal of Discourses 5:323)
“The most important of all the commandments of God is that one that you’re having the most difficulty keeping… . Today is the day for you to work … until you’ve been able to conquer that weakness. Then you start on the next one that’s most difficult for you to keep. That’s the way to sanctify yourselves by keeping the commandments of God.” (Harold B. Lee, Church News, May 5, 1973, p. 3)
