The Name of the True Church of Jesus Christ

Daniel H. Ludlow

In answer to a question among the disciples as to what the name of the church should be, the Savior said that the church should be called after his name if it is established by him, and if it is built upon his gospel. (3 Nephi 27:8.) The Savior also reminds his disciples of the scripture that says, “… ye must take upon you the name of Christ.” (3 Nephi 27:5.) Thus the name of the true church is The Church of Jesus Christ. However, to differentiate the true church of Christ on the earth now from the church established during the meridian of time, the Savior has directed that in this dispensation the name of his church should be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (D&C 115:4.)
