Jesus Christ referred to the words of Malachi, a prophet who lived in Jerusalem after Lehi and Nephi traveled to the promised land. Malachi’s prophecies were therefore not on the brass plates. The Savior made it clear that the Father wanted Malachi’s words preserved for future generations. All the words of Malachi 3–4 are recorded in 3 Nephi 24–25; in addition, this prophecy of Malachi 4 is in all four standard works (see D&C 2 and Joseph Smith–History 1:37–39).
