“My Kindness Shall Not Depart from Thee”

Literature: A common poetic form in the Hebrew Bible is synonymous parallelism, in which the theme of one line is repeated in a different way in a second line. This verse is the synonymous parallel of the previous verse. Both verses focus on assurance that Yahweh’s promise is binding. The first enunciation compared the promise’s permanence to a past promise. The second contrasts the permanence to mountains disappearing—an obvious impossibility.
