“They Shall Be Cut Off from Among My People Who Are of the Covenant”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

It is fascinating to notice how the Lord honors his servants. What was and is true of his own word-that those who reject it shall be cut off from among the people of the covenant-is also true of his servants.

That is, to reject the words of Joseph Smith, the preeminent revealer of Christ in this final age of the earth’s history, is the same as rejecting the words of Christ himself. By extension, to reject the words of those prophets and seers who succeed the Prophet Joseph is to qualify for like condemnation (see D&C 1:14).
