“For That Which Had Not Been Told Them Shall They See”

Brant Gardner

Reference: In the 1830 edition, our current Chapters 20 and 21 were not separated. A literary technique Jesus has used (see commentary accompanying 3 Nephi 20:32) was to explain a point, then cap it by quoting Isaiah. This verse continues that technique by quoting Isaiah 52:15: “So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.” This quotation repeats 3 Nephi 20:45.
