“Whoso Eateth and Drinketh My Flesh and Blood Unworthily Eateth and Drinketh Damnation to His Soul”

Brant Gardner

The 3 Nephi account is more clearly phrased, but the meaning is the same. Partaking of the sacrament expresses an attitude of repentance. If we are not humble, then we deny the sacrament’s very purpose, which is to renew our covenantal relationship with God, remind us of the Savior’s atoning mission, and express faith in his providing the conditions in which we may repent and improve. We need not, and probably cannot, partake perfectly; but we can partake worthily if we are humble and willing to follow God’s path.
