“Surely He Hath Blessed the House of Jacob”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Mormon, in ecstasy, contemplated his descent from Father Lehi, and, in doing so, blessed Him Who rules the lives of all men. A glorious paean in praise to God and His Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, rose from Mormon's heart, and lifted him to unprecedented heights of thanksgiving for Their divine goodness and mercies which They had bestowed upon his people. The promise the Lord had given the Patriarch Lehi, was that if his descendants would keep the commandments of God, they should be blessed upon the land unto which he, Lehi, should be led. That promise was fulfilled "according to His word." Not only did this promise extend to material things, but in Mormon's own words: "He hath given my people so much knowledge unto the Salvation of our souls." "Surely," he says, "He hath blessed the House of Jacob, and hath been merciful unto the seed of Joseph," a remnant of which He will bring to a "knowledge of the Lord their God." (This was written by Mormon about 326 years after Christ.)
