“So Long as They Shall Call on the Name of Their God for Protection”

Brant Gardner

The people invoke the Nephite foundational promise. Despite their history of straying from Yahweh, during this campaign they have been faithful (3 Ne. 3:15–16, 4:8–9). At this moment of victory, they give Yahweh credit and invoke his continued protection. Clearly they understand that they themselves must continue in righteousness for this covenant of protection to be effective. Ironically and sadly, they will soon stray again.
