“So Long as They Shall Call on the Name of Their God for Protection”

Brant Gardner

The people invoke the Nephite foundational promise. They have, as a people, had their times when they had strayed from God. At this moment of victory they give God credit and invoke his continued protection. Of course that continued protection will come with the Nephites adherence to their part of the covenant. That is, the Nephites must continue in righteousness for this covenant of protection to be in effect. Ironically, not long from this point, they will stray again.
