Why did Lachoneus assemble the Nephites together in one place?

Thomas R. Valletta

In this intriguing account, the Nephites “gather together … unto one place” (v. 13), “in the center of [their] lands” (v. 21), “to the place which had been appointed” (v. 22), “in one body” (v. 25), and did “repent of all their sins” and “put up their prayers” to God (v. 25). This passage reminds us of Enoch’s city, whose gathered people “were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness” (Moses 7:18). In what way might these events forecast the last days when the Saints establish “a land of peace, a city of refuge, a place of safety for the saints of the Most High God”? (D&C 45:65).
