Text:Mormon originally conceived this text as immediately following the information in our current Chapter 1. This contrast between the righteousness after the sign and the growing disbelief is an important development. The break in the chapters might mask how early this disbelief began and how naturally it grew out of the forces that also prompted the defection of Nephites and Lamanites to the Gadiantons.
