Samuel apparently understands that this conversion of the Lamanites will not remain true for all Lamanites for the rest of their history. They will dwindle in unbelief again. Nevertheless, their situation is not completely hopeless because they have a promise of ultimate restoration. No doubt Samuel sees the current acceptance of the gospel by the Lamanites as a sample and precursor to that great acceptance in the promised last days.
