Samuel attempts to show the Nephites the value of steadfastly obeying Yahweh by holding up the Lamanites as examples. Their beliefs are characterized by “steadfastness” and “firmness”; as a result “the Lord shall bless them and prolong their days.” When the calamities come at the Messiah’s visit, they will be protected as promised. Most of the recorded destruction will be in Nephite lands.
