“Five Years More . . . then Cometh the Son of God to Redeem All Those Who Shall Believe on His Name”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Salvation cometh. That is the message of the prophets of God. From the beginning of time, this message has centered on Christ and His redeeming mission. Isaiah proclaimed before Israel: “Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him” (Isaiah 62:11). King Benjamin confirmed: “There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives” (Mosiah 5:8).

Samuel enjoins his listeners to repent, “lest by knowing these things and not doing them ye shall suffer yourselves to come under condemnation, and ye are brought down unto this second death” (verse 19). Following the Resurrection of the Lord, declares Samuel, many will rise from their graves and appear to the people (see verse 25). All of these signs are given, Samuel declares, “that whosoever will believe might be saved, and that whosoever will not believe, a righteous judgment might come upon them” (verse 29). Thus all should exercise their God-given agency and repent unto salvation and partake of eternal life.
