Happiness is Not Obtained Through Doing Iniquity

Daniel H. Ludlow

Samuel the Lamanite reminds the wicked people of his day: “… ye have sought all the days of your lives for that which ye could not obtain; and ye have sought for happiness in doing iniquity, which thing is contrary to the nature of that righteousness which is in our great and Eternal Head.” (Helaman 13:38.) Samuel’s teachings are very similar to those of Alma the younger (“wickedness never was happiness”—Alma 41:10), and to those of Lehi (2 Nephi 2:11-27).

(For further information on this subject, including a diagram showing the relationship between wickedness and unhappiness, see the material listed after 2 Nephi 2:11-27.)
