What do we learn from Samuel’s experience about the Lord’s love and patience?

Thomas R. Valletta

Think of all the scriptural accounts in which God has repeatedly tried to encourage His rebellious children to repent (for example, 1 Nephi 7:21; Mosiah 12:1; 27:11; 28:1; Alma 8:16; Helaman 5:4; 6:4–5.) Why does the Lord try so hard to save His children? Do you know of someone, perhaps even yourself, who feels at times that because of that person’s sins, the Lord has given up on him or her? If the Lord tried to reach the rebellious Nephites by sending Samuel a second time, what will He do for those who stumble and fall today?
