“To the Dividing Asunder”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

So great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them; and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations feared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him (Moses 7:13).

“Korihor Was Struck Dumb”

It would appear that Korihor, like Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist (see Luke 1:20, 62-63), was struck deaf and dumb, inasmuch as the people had to write to Korihor in order to communicate with him. A modern revelation explains the principle that condemned Korihor:

“Faith cometh not by signs, but signs follow those that believe. Yea, signs come by faith, not by the will of men, nor as they please, but by the will of God. Yea, signs come by faith, unto mighty works, for without faith no man pleaseth God; and with whom God is angry he is not well pleased; wherefore, unto such he showeth no signs, only in wrath unto their condemnation.” (D&C 63:9-11, italics added.)
