“Put Their Trust in Him”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, the proverb admonishes, “and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6.) Two of the most significant questions a member of the Church of Jesus Christ can ask are: In whom do I trust? On whom do I rely? That is, in the spirit of unnatural, unproductive, overmuch self-reliance am I more prone to trust in my own unaided efforts or am I willing to place my whole allegiance in Christ the Lord? True Saints rely wholly, they rely alone, upon the merits of Christ, the author and finisher of our faith (see 2 Nephi 31:19; Moroni 6:4).
