“Not a Whit Behind”

Brant Gardner

Although Mormon concentrates on Nephi, apparently his sources contained information about Lehi; and Mormon shows respect for him by asserting that he was “not a whit behind” his brother in righteousness. Considering Nephi’s power, then, Lehi was also a great prophet whom Yahweh trusted. Nephi’s prominence in the narrative comes from his position as the leader of the church, a position he once held simultaneously with the chief judge’s seat, and retained even though he was no longer a chief judge.
