“Return Unto the Multitudes”

Brant Gardner

Even the slight conceptual break caused by the separation between verses 11 and 12 belies the seamless action that happens here. Nephi, en route to his home, receives a revelation from Yahweh—part gift and part command that he preach repentance. Nephi stops in his tracks, turns around on the spot, and immediately begins the task. Even though he has been bound and has undergone judicial questioning, he does not return home even long enough to eat, change his clothing, or reassure his family. He turns around. Immediately. Without hesitation, he sets about his task, even though preaching that very message has recently resulted in his arrest and a threat on his life.
